Toxic chemicals and the lack of regulations

Habits to Healthy Blog Post 7

In the US and European Union (EU), about 80,000 chemicals are currently in use. Chemicals that make things smell wonderful, scrub things sparkling clean, add extra flavor to pre-made foods, make things look prettier.

In 2007, EU introduced a regulation that requires ANY chemical substance used or produced by companies to be registered. This means the chemical has been studied for potential risks, hazards, and tested for safety. In cosmetics alone, there are approximately 1,300 chemicals banned for use in the EU due to safety concerns.

In the US, there is no such regulation and approximately 2,000 new chemicals are introduced into foods and consumer products every year. Companies are NOT required to test chemicals for safety before products are on the market. Of the 1,300 chemicals banned in the EU, the US has banned only 11

What should we do?

Be empowered to AVOID or REDUCE exposures to these untested and potentially toxic chemicals.

We can also help SUPPORT our body to detoxify these chemicals naturally through urine, bowels, sweat, and expiration.

This is why drinking plenty of filtered water throughout the day helps keep our body in balance. It helps push toxins OUT. Now who’s ready to get their sweat on this week?
